You may remember before Xmas I was ordering fabric and being impatient....
Well the fabric returned and I was delighted with the results...over the moon in fact! Striking cushions were created.
And then I realised that the "half panama" fabric that I'd ordered (never heard of it before but liked the feel and colour quality from the sample) was polyester based.
Hmmmm....so I researched cushions and fabric again , got some printed samples and went for cotton drill which has just come back today.... and I can't help but feel disappointed with the colour quality....It's not PINGING..infact not even close.
I'm now seeking your advice.
How do you buy your cushions?
Do you look at designs, have a feel then discover it's not cotton and put it back?
Do you only buy cotton based cushion-y type things... or does fabric type even factor in your decision?
Its hard to know whether I've been spoiled by having the comparison of the two..maybe if I'd received the cotton first I'd be happy with colours...the photos actually make the colours look stronger than they are.
(Check my funny model out....she's on day 2 of being off school "ill" , we're on the the day when they start being naughty and jumping about and you know they probably should have gone back today after all! Oh well this gave her something to do for atleast 2 minutes!)
Any advice/opinions would be greatly appreciated x
Were they printed at the same place because they shouldnt be so different!!
ReplyDeleteHi Alyssa, thanks for leaving a comment. No they weren't printed at the same place :)
DeleteI buy Cotton, Linen or Silk for cushion covers, or use heavy Cotton furnishing fabric .
ReplyDeleteAlways seem to be able to get vibrant colours
I don't really like the feel of Polyester , but I suppose that a 50/50 Mix might work
Hi there, thanks for your feedback. I think I may just need to alter the concentration of the colours for the cotton fabric...every day is a school day :)
DeleteDid you have them digitally printed? If so then that works best with a high polyester content to the fabric. I like both prints, they each have a very different quality. It wouldn't worry me if there was a high poly content to the cushion cover so long as it felt good and not too synthetic.
ReplyDeleteHello Mrs! Thanks for your input. Yes they are digitally printed. You're right about them both having different qualities...I've been humming and hawing all night about what to do. However as I was putting on my mustard coloured tights, green skirt and aubergine top this morn I realised I'm all about the colour!..so digital and polyester it is! :)
DeleteI would buy your daughter without testing her first! - she's cuuuute :)
ReplyDeleteAs for cushions - it's definitely all about a feather filling for me first and then colour a short second. I wouldn't want it too feel syntheticy but I wouldn't want it washed out looking either. Back in the day, when I used to screen print by hand, a fabric with a slight sheen repelled the ink rather than absorbed it - something with a silk rf pretend silk content might help??? a chintz type polished fabric?? good luck xx
Excellent that's one daughter sold then ;)
DeleteWashed out is the perfect word for what the cotton colours are looking like. Not what I'm after at all! A yes to the feather inserts though! I've decide to offer both as some folk (like my stu) are allergic. Thanks so much for your feedback Claire, really appreciated x
I look for washability, and yes I definitely prefer cotton. I give it the feel test to decide if I like the quality. I like the colours in the cushion that the sweety model is holding in her hands. Jane x
ReplyDeleteHi Jenny, I prefer natural fabrics and do tend to base my decision on that, having said that when I look around at my extensive cushion collection some of them are a mix. They do have to be washable for me too. I do prefer the depth of the colour of the bottom cushion but maybe that is because they are together! super cute model by the way.
