I've dusted off my paint brushes and joined in the fun that is "Get your Paint on " e-course and this weeks "homework" was to create a quilt like/blocks of colour painting.....which sounds simple enough but I found incredibly hard to do!!!
My brain has been in overdrive all week analysing and swithering.....what....blocks of colour? flat colour, shaded blocks, different shapes, all straight lines, all squares? ..and on and on!!
I'm sure it speak volumes that such a simple request could bring such internal doubts and debates and sooo much resistance! So.....already I have learnt more about myself.....the one about being rubbish at following instructions I was already pretty familiar with :)
(left over paint doodle..circles and straight lines!)
Thankfully inspirations struck whilst I sat in the quiet and still of the car awaiting my little one to wake from slumber. It struck me that I still haven't created anything to remind me daily of my word for 2011 "allow". And seems even more apt considering the resistance I've had towards doing this first painting!!
So "allow" it is on a bed of colour..can you make out the letters?!
Allow........me to follow my heart
allow......my dreams to come true
allow......my creativity to flow....
I'm linking this to Sophia's Sunday Sketches today.......pop on over and see what other lovely sketches have appeared today..hopefully with a little less resistance! :)
What a great painting - lovely colours. I love your doodle too, stripes and circles - so simple yet so stunning. In fact I can't stop looking at it, gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteJenny your choices of colour always bring a smile to my face. You seem to know exactly what combinations represent happiness. I love your "allow" painting as well as your pattern panel where you've been doodling with the left over paint! Lovley!
ReplyDeleteLove the colors and composition in your quilt/block piece. Shoot, I even love the circle on below. That would make an uber-cool fabric pattern. I love hearing what you learn as you go. Nice to know I am not the only one who doubts and resists whilst I work. Probably why more people don't pursue their creativity...it really is super hard mental work. I always love your posts.
ReplyDeleteOMG I love this. I cannot for the life of me, get my head around this assignment. AT ALL! You have done this so utterly beautifully! ♥
ReplyDeleteLovely work! And ALLOW... what an inspiring word to remember this year. Nice to "meet" you out here!
ReplyDeleteOh these are so pretty! I'm very impressed with the second one! Wonderful work:)
ReplyDeleteThat course looks good. I love how inspiration strikes when you least expect it - or when you just take the time to be still and let it flow, clearing the mind of all that unnecessary clutter. Great abstract pieces.
ReplyDeleteThis is just beautiful - You definintely can't see any signs of an internal struggle! I am a quilter so I really appreciate this - it's beautiful!
ReplyDeleteSmiles
I love it. I always have admired this type of painting but never thought to think of it as a quilt, so I learned something today.
ReplyDeleteHmm...not sure if it went through or not, but I was saying--this is clever--good choice of colour. you are so talented, Jenny. Must have taken you ages to do this, no?
ReplyDeleteI love it and think you did an amazing job. Seriously! I'm not sure that I could have created something like this. LOVE it. :)
ReplyDeleteHappy SS! :)
I like this one, even the leftovers!
ReplyDeleteI like the colors of the blocks, they work well together
ReplyDeletegreat post
ReplyDeleteLove the color pallette... soft, warm... nice.
ReplyDeleteI can really relate to what you've said about resistance and allowing things to happen. I don't find allowing comes naturally to me at all which was one of the big reasons for me starting my blog. I've found being creative a way for me to allow things to happen, and I love that I've found that. I have a technical question, Jenny, if it's ok, about how you added your journal tutorial to your blog pages gadget, I am starting a new blog and want to add some tutorial type pages but can't seem to get a grip on it, could you let me know how you did it. I've manageed to get my home page link up there but have no idea how to publish extra pages! Thanks for your help. Emma xx
ReplyDeleteAah, those rare moments of peace when a little one is asleep in the car and you allow yourself to just sit until they wake - golden! i really love your leftover doodle! :D
ReplyDeleteI loved hearing the story behind your paintings. I hadn't seen he word 'allow' but now I can - clever!
ReplyDeletegreat job - thanks for sharing the why!!!
ReplyDeletecheers, dana
Love the abstract feel to this and the colours too. Lovely and bright!
ReplyDelete:)
ReplyDeleteLoving your paintings, Jenny. Glad to see you in the class. I think for me it's more fear than resistance. Or maybe resistance because of fear?
Allow is such a great word.
Yes, love the bright colors. sounds like a fun class...I like how you put the word "allow" in too!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautifully done reminder... the struggle was definitely worth it!

Wow, this is really really beautiful Jenny!
ReplyDeleteI really wanted to take this class but it was not to be since I'm already taking Misty's class. I will enjoy the class through your lovely blog. :)
